Here’s the simple step-by-step process to cancel Shopify subscription:
Step 1. Back Up Your Store
The very first thing you should do is clear the outstanding bills and charges to your store and backup all your store data including products, customers details, orders, CMS pages etc.
Shopify allows you to easily export data to CSV files. Here’s how you to export products:
Log into your Shopify admin panel and navigate to Products.
Click Export at the top right side.
In the confirmation pop-up, click All Products and select the preferred format, for e.g. CSV.
Click Export Products and you’ll get the CSV file on your email.
Similarly, export other essential data.
Step 2. Uninstall All Third-party Shopify Apps
Canceling Shopify store subscription will not automatically unsubscribe you from the third-party apps you’re using. It means the charges will continue even after you cancel Shopify subscription. So, it’s essential to uninstall third-party apps before canceling the subscription.
Follow these steps to uninstall all third-party Shopify apps:
Navigate to Apps and select App and Sales Channel Settings at the right-side.
Now, the list of installed apps will appear.
Click the Uninstall button for each app and remove all apps one by one.
Step 3. Transfer Your Custom Domain Name
You may need to transfer the custom Shopify domain before you close the store.
There can be two scenarios here:
- You’re using a domain managed by Shopify
- You’ve a third-party domain connected to Shopify
In the first case, you’ll need to unlock the domain and transfer it to another domain provider using the transfer link.
Here’s how to do it:
Go to your Shopify admin and select Domains.
Now, Select the Domain you want to transfer and click on Manage.
Navigate to Transfer Domain at the top right-side > Transfer to another provider.
Click “Confirm” to get the domain authorization code, which you can use to transfer it to another domain provider.
You’ll get the authorization code to transfer the domain to another provider.
That’s it!
Now, if you’re using a third-party domain with Shopify. You’ll need to disconnect it.
Here’s how to do it:
Log into your Shopify admin and navigate to Online Store > Domains.
Go to Third-party Domains and check the list of domains linked with your Shopify store.
Select the Domain and click Remove on the right side to disconnect it.
Confirm the domain removal and you’ll be able to use it with any other website by modifying its DNS records..
Step 4. Cancel Your Shopify Store Subscription
Here are the simple steps to cancel your Shopify subscription:
Navigate to Settings > Plan and scroll down to Deactivate Store.
Here you’ve option to Pause, Start a new store or Deactivate Store, click Deactivate Store.
When you click on Deactivate Store, Choose a Reason you want to cancel your Shopify subscription and click on Continue.
Now, enter your Shopify store password and click on Deactivate store.
