Magento Upgrade Compatibility Tool
On February 3, 2021, the Magento Upgrade Compatibility Tool was released. Magento has released this tool to make the Magento upgrade process more transparent and persistent. It is a command-line interface (CLI) tool that determines the required customization prior to the upgrade.
The Magento Upgrade Compatibility tool was released to reduce the problems and issues faced by the store owners during the upgrade. The store owners or developers can compare and validate the functioning of the store before the actual upgrade. It returns the list of the errors and warnings that need to be solved before upgrading the Magento store.
Thus, the Magento upgrade compatibility tool made the Magento upgrade process more seamless and transparent than ever.
Major Magento Updates 2021
Magento rolled out two major updates in 2021. Magento 2.4.2 was released on February 9, 2021, followed by Magento 2.4.3 on August 10, 2021. There have been major improvements in the performance and user experience with the Magento updates.

Magento 2.4.3 Update Highlights:
- Page Builder for Open Source
- reCAPTCHA
- GraphQL for Shared Routes
- Updated Vendor Developed Extensions
- Support for PayPal Later
Some of the major updates in the Magento 2.4.3 version were Page Builder in the community version and Adobe Sensei in live search. The page builder is an amazing feature of Magento that allows store owners to create pages with custom layouts and designs. Also Adobe Sensei for live search was implemented in Magento 2.4.3 version for smarter, faster, and relevant product recommendations.
Magento turned 13 on March 31, 2021. It was the day when this robust eCommerce development platform entered the 14th year of making online shopping better.
Diverse Magento Event
In 2021, when the world was going through the Covid-19 pandemic, Magento didn’t miss this chance to add value to its event organizers. Diverse Magento Event was held on March 4, 2021, from 5 to 7:30 pm UTC to help the event organizers to attract a diverse range of speakers.

The workshop was led by Jill Binder of Diverse in Tech which passed helpful information to the Magento event organizers. The event focused on ‘Training the Trainers’ from 17 cities in 10 countries to pass useful information to the speakers and to attract them.
The workshop focused on the following five topics:
- Mindset Shifting – Shifting the way Magento event organizers think about diversity
- Community – How to attract a diverse community
- Environment – How to create a welcome environment for the speakers
- Speakers and Leaders – How to encourage speakers and leaders from diverse backgrounds to step up
- Allyship – How to become a better ally
It was a wonderful effort by Magento to make the whole community stronger. Encouraging different diverse types of speakers and leaders can drive the whole Magento community forward, together.
Moreover, Magento also conducted more speaker training sessions in May and September 2021.
Magento Rebranding
April 21, 2021, was a remarkable day in the history of Magento. Magento announced its rebranding to ‘Adobe Commerce’ on this day. Annoucing the rebranding, Magento quoted – ‘Continuing to execute on our commerce vision to serve customers of all sizes with Adobe Commerce.

Magento acquisition by Adobe is no surprise at all. It needed to enter into the market of eCommerce to give a competitive edge. Adobe announced the acquisition of Magento on May 21, 2018, for $1.68 billion. However, it officially rebranded Magento almost 3 years later to Adobe Commerce.
The expectations of the Magento store owners increased significantly aftering being acquired by a behemoth like Adobe.
Adobe Summit 2021
Adobe organized Adobe summit exactly a week after announcing the acquisition of Magento to announce the exciting commerce innovations that they were bringing in to the market. The summit was held in over 400 sessions and workshops across 11 tracks.
The two-day long Adobe summit was held from April 27 to 29, 2021. During the online virtual event, more than 55,000 attendees participated in the live chat discussions. Leaders from the renowned brands such as Adobe, Coca-Cola, Verizon Media, Poly, Walgreens participated and shared their success stories and products evolutions in this summit.
Adobe Summit 2021 was a perfect opportunity for the marketers and executives to network with each other using the Braindate app. Also, there were giveaways, exclusive offers and plenty of ways to do fun and enjoy the moment by sponsors. The 2021 Experience Maker Awards
Adobe provided a chance to shine with the experience maker awards in 2021. The entries for the awards were made open from March onwards. On June 23 & 24, Adobe organized virtual galas to announce the finalists and winners of the Adobe experience maker awards 2021.
Considering the worldwide Covid-19 pandemic, the galas were held online through live-stream galas. Awards were announced by Adobe for participants that were outshining in different categories.

Magento in 2021 – Wrapping Up
Like every other platforms, Magento went through many ups and downs this year. However, it has thrived throughout the year and is expected to drive the eCommerce world in the new year 2022, considering its acquisition by Adobe.
From rebranding of Magento to organizing galas that added value to the Magento community, 2021 ended with a plenty of significant moments. Magento is here to stay and for a longer time with new innovations every year.
