6 Easy Steps to Create 301 Redirect In Magento 2

A URL redirect is a way to redirect a user and search engine to a different URL than the requested URL.

301 Redirect tells the search engine that a previous URL’s content is sent to a new address and the old URL is useless. Once you create a 301 redirect, the old URLs will not be indexed by the bots.

With 301 redirects, the link equity of the old URL is almost passed to the new one. For example, the ranking power.

Steps to Create 301 Redirect In Magento 2:

1. Login to the admin panel.
2. Navigate to Marketing >  SEO& Search >  URL Rewrites.
   
   
3. Click the ” Add URL Rewrite” button.
4. Select custom in Create URL Redirect dropdown.
5. Add the URL rewrite information:
   1. Store – Select the store view where you want the URL Rewrite to be added
   2. Request Path – Set the path where you want to be redirected
   3. Target Path – Set the path you want the old one to be redirected to.
   4. Redirect Type – Select Permanent (301)
   5. Description – Enter the reason for this 301 redirect.
      
6. Save the configuration.
   

Note: Please do not enter either domain or store view code in the request and target paths.
